This summer councillor Gary Malcolm had his hair chopped off to raise money for two charities, one St. John's soup kitchen in Mattock Lane, West Ealing, W13 9LA, which provides hot food for many homeless people each Saturday and Sunday.

Gary on 23rd September met with Jenny Mulrenan, Karin Hayes and others who help out organising the soup kitchen each week, to hand over a cheque for £550. The money will go to providing food for the soup kitchen which is run entirely by volunteers.

Gary Malcolm said: "It was a pleasure to meet Jenny Mulrenan and those who volunteer to help those in need. I can see they all put a lot of effort in to help others. There used to be 20 or 30 people a few years ago - now there are 70 or more each day. I hope the money I donated makes a difference to those people in need giving them a warm meal."

Gary Malcolm added: "Some of those who came to the soup kitchen will need clothing when it gets colder in the next month or two. It is good that the soup kitchen also store a number of hats, coats and pairs of socks so people can avoid the cold weather when it bites."
