Lib Dems Choose Jon Ball for Ealing Central & Acton8.58.33pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 4th Apr 2007
Local Liberal Democrats have chosen Jon Ball (who represents Ealing Common ward on Ealing Council), as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Ealing Central & Acton seat. This new constituency is the tenth most winnable seat for the Liberal Democrats in the country, requiring a swing of less than 1½% from Labour to win. Jon Ball has lived in Ealing for 15 years and is the only candidate living locally to have so far been selected for any party. Commenting on his selection, Jon said, "I will be campaigning on the key issues of concern to local people, including defeating the Tram, fighting climate change and cutting crime." Jon added, "In last year's local elections, the Liberal Democrats overtook Labour across the wards that make up Ealing Central and Acton. Local people are fed up with Labour, so the election for this new seat is shaping up into a fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Tories!"
