Lack of Council Action on Dumping is Disgusting - Bakhai

2.30.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 9th Jul 2007

Nigel Bakhai, local Liberal Democrat campaigner and candidate in the forthcoming by-election for Ealing Southall, has demanded action from Conservative-run Ealing Council after discovering a rat infestation caused by dumped rubbish.

Mr Bakhai wrote to the Council after speaking to residents of West End Road, who have been plagued by problems with rats and other vermin. The pests are attracted by food waste and rubbish dumped by restaurants on the Broadway.

Nigel Bakhai said:

"This is disgusting - local residents should not be subjected to this kind of treatment.

"Our Conservative Council can and should be forcing restaurants to clean up their act - their failure to do so reveals their lack of concern for local people."
