Labour's Ealing Southall by-election candidate is under fire for claiming he is opposed to plans for a tram through Ealing, despite having voted to give Ealing Council's backing to the scheme.

He has tried to distance himself from Labour's unpopular tram plans, calling them "Ken Livingstone's tram scheme" and saying he is opposed to them.

But a check of official voting records held by Ealing Council show that Virendra Sharma voted FOR the tram, whilst Liberal Democrat councillors voted against the plans.

The Ealing Council resolution stated that:

"That the Council's support for the West London Tram Project, as shown in appendix 1 of the report, be confirmed."

Amongst those listed voting for the resolution was Virendra Sharma.
