Lit donation is another blow to beleaguered Tory campaign

9.58.43pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 14th Jul 2007

Responding to news that Tony Lit, Conservative candidate in the Ealing Southall by election donated nearly £5,000 to the Labour party last month, Lord Rennard, Chief Executive of the Liberal Democrats said:

"This news is yet another blow to a beleaguered Conservative campaign.

"Their candidate has been revealed as a Labour donor.

"Perhaps the Conservatives will be relieved that he cannot win the by-election.

"One has to wonder just what questions were asked before the Conservatives invited Mr Lit to become 'David Cameron's Conservative candidate'."
