Liberal Democrats Launch Attack on Ealing's Council Parking Mistake12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 24th Apr 2009
Councillor Gary Malcolm, Lib Dem Transport Spokesperson, attacked the Conservative-run Ealing Council this week when he found out that a resident had received a parking ticket when he had done nothing wrong. The resident (name withheld) proactively proved he was correct by gaining advice from the Council's transport section - however the Parking Department still would not withdraw their ticket. The resident took the Council to court and won his case, leaving the Council with more egg on its face. Cllr Gary Malcolm said: "Giving residents tickets for crimes they haven't committed is daylight robbery. And forcing residents to go to court to get legal redress is a waste of everybody's time. The Council should treat residents like humans and not dole out parking fines without knowing a person has broken the rules. This looks like the Conservatives are just desperate for money and will do anything to get their grubby hands on residents' cash."
