Liberal Democrats Win Better Scooter Access12.00.00am GMT Wed 4th Nov 2009
Lib Dem Councillor Gary Malcolm took up an offer from resident Pauline Hart, of Southfield Road, to try her scooter and see how bad many of the kerbs and pavements are in the area. Gary went on a trip around streets including Southfield Road, Carlton Road, Somerset Road and Acton Lane. After the visit, he wrote to the Director of Highways, and got him to improve a number of local kerbs and pavements so that residents with scooters can get around more easily. Councillor Malcolm said: "It was good to be able to fix the problems facing many residents in the area. The Liberal Democrats are asking for more dropped kerbs to help those with scooters or prams." Pauline Hart said: "The dropped kerbs have made a great difference to people using wheelchairs and mobility scooters. I can now get to the local shops on Acton Lane."
