Welcome to Ealing Central & Acton Lib DemsThis site has news and information about the Liberal Democrats in the Ealing Central & Acton constituency. Following boundary changes, the constituency now covers Acton, Southfield, Ealing Common, Walpole, Hanger Hill and Ealing Broadway. The Shepherds Bush part of the previous Ealing, Acton & Shepherds Bush constituency is no longer within our constituency. Jon Ball, who was the Lib Dem candidate at the general election in May 2010, is the parliamentary spokesperson for Ealing Central and Acton. At the election Jon polled 13,041, which is the highest vote ever recorded for a Liberal or Liberal Democrat in the area; it now requires a swing of just over 5% for the Liberal Democrats to win. Recent News From Ealing Central and ActonMon 9th Aug 2010: Councillor Rose shows the personal touch to help local disabilities charity. The Liberal Democrat party have "called in" for scrutiny a Council decision to sell off the land where the Impact rent a building from the Council. The Council will have to decide whether it wishes to stick to its orignal decision or change their mind. Wed 21st Jul 2010: Council now agrees to the Liberal Democrat Customer Charter plan. In April this year your FOCUS team put forward the idea for Ealing Council to introduce a Customer Charter so that residents would be heard more and treated better. In a recent debate Councillor Andrew Steed raised the idea, whilst making his maiden speech. Sun 18th Jul 2010: Liberal Democrats take part in the local SkyRide event. Councillors Gary Malcolm and Nigel Bakhai joined thousands of fellow cyclists at the recent SkyRide event which took place in Ealing. Sat 17th Jul 2010: Liberal Democrats Start Piccadilly Line Talks With TfL. Local Liberal Democrats had a meeting with two senior transport advisors from Transport for London this week. The meeting came after the request by Lib Dem Leader Councillor Gary Malcolm and Caroline Pidgeon, Greater London Assembly Member, who want to see the Piccadilly Line tube stop permanently at Turnham Green. Fri 18th Jun 2010: Coalition supports Crossrail in full. Ealing Lib Dem Transport spokesman Cllr Nigel Bakhai has welcomed the news that the Lib Dem-Conservative Coalition Government has confirmed its support for the Crossrail scheme. Thu 20th May 2010: All change for Ealing Lib Dems following election success. Gary Malcolm has become the new Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader in Ealing this month following the local elections. Fri 30th Apr 2010: Undecided voters swing to Lib Dems following final Leaders Debate. Last night was the final of the three televised Leaders' debates. Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, debated with Gordon Brown and David Cameron about the economy. Subjects discussed included breaking up the banks, creating more jobs and reinvigorating the British economy. Thu 29th Apr 2010: Ealing Southall Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Nigel Bakhai has slammed Labour's Virendra Sharma for failing to turn up to an election debate on the future of Ealing Hospital. Wed 28th Apr 2010: Third and Final Party Leaders' TV debate: The Economy. On Thursday 29th April from 8.30pm, BBC One will host the final live Prime Ministerial Debate of the General Election from the Midlands. Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron will again be going head to head in the run up to the General Election next Thursday. Tue 27th Apr 2010: Conservative no-show at Ealing Election Hustings on Foreign Policy Issues. Jon Ball, the Liberal Democrat candidate for the highly marginal Ealing Central & Acton seat answered local residents questions on international issues including Palestine and Afghanistan and outlined Liberal Democrat promises to defend civil liberties here at home including scrapping the ID card system. Mon 26th Apr 2010: New Evening Standard poll predicts Lib Dem win in Ealing Central and Acton. Today's Evening Standard reports a local YouGov poll predicting that local Liberal Democrat candidate Jon Ball is set to win the new highly-marginal constituency of Ealing Central & Acton. Fri 23rd Apr 2010: Clegg Scores Second Win in Party Leaders Debate. An average of five polls conducted immediately after the Sky TV Leaders Election debate on Thursday night put Nick Clegg as the winner, with all instant polls showing him ahead of Gordon Brown. After the Foreign Affairs-led debate from Bristol dominated by issues like Iraq, immigration and climate change, Nick Clegg won 3 of the 5 polls on the night, building on his position after the first debate. Following leaks of secret NHS plans threatening the closure of the Accident and Emergency units at both Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital, Jon Ball and the local Liberal Democrats have been campaigning to save our local emergency services. Wed 21st Apr 2010: Second Party Leaders' TV debate: Foreign Affairs. The second Party Leaders Debate is taking place this Thursday starting at 8pm on Sky News. Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron will again be going head to head in a TV debate in the run up to the General Election on May 6th, this time leading on Foreign Affairs. Tue 20th Apr 2010: Liberal Democrat Manifesto launched. Ealing Liberal Democrats have launched their local manifesto for the borough elections on 6th May, Change that Works for Ealing, with a strong attack on the Conservatives.
