Recently, the front counter at Chiswick Police Station has reopened temporarily for two months until mid-November whilst Hounslow Police Station is being refurbished. Liberal Democrats believe the station should be open permanently.
Liberal Democrats elsewhere in West London campaigned and won an important High Court legal decision in 2018 which meant that Wimbledon Police Station was not allowed to close - despite the current Labour mayor desire to do so.
A physical, local presence means the police can speed up their response to dealing with crimes. Direct contact between residents and police helps reduce the fear of crime. Liberal Democrats are here to fight for a safe Chiswick.
Liberal Democrats are the only party to campaign against the original closures of the Chiswick police station when this was announced in 2018.
Councillor Gary Malcolm, Liberal Democrat for Southfield ward, said: "I suspect that the fear of crime will increase if the police reduces it visibility of officers to the public. There are examples elsewhere when local criminals knew that the police would take longer to respond and took advantage of this."
We the undersigned call on London Mayor Sadiq Khan and the Government to keep Chiswick police station open permanently; and Ealing and Hounslow Councils to stand up to the Mayor and the Government on this issue.
We will include your name and address when submitting the petition to the Metropolitan Police.
