It is a year now since the Longfield Avenue traffic scheme was introduced. It's difficult to see how this scheme is improving safety or traffic flow.
A trial aimed at improving road safety on Longfield Avenue in Ealing Broadway was extended by six months in February. Under the rules of the trial it will continue to be a traffic violation to turn left out of, or right into Longfield Avenue at the junction with New Broadway. The Council state that income from penalty notices is ring-fenced and used to pay for concessionary travel schemes such as the freedom pass. However as they have no choice but to pay for the freedom pass, this is simply liberating funds for other projects. So the so-called ring-fencing is meaningless.
We look forward to seeing the data that comes out of this experiment when it is finished in May.
