Former Liberal Democrat Councillor Nigel Bakhai planning a comeback in Northfield ward in the local elections
Ealing Liberal Democrats have announced Nigel Bakhai, Mark Andrews and Robert Hall will stand in Northfield ward.
Nigel Bakhai is a former Councillor for Elthorne ward (now Hanwell Broadway) between 2010-14 and a former parliamentary candidate who came a strong second in the Ealing Southall by-election in 2007. Nigel has lived in Ealing for over 25 years and has been active in the local community - he was Chair of the Hanwell Steering Group (known as the Hanwell Community Forum) for five years before becoming a Councillor in 2010.
During his time on Ealing Council, Nigel raised concerns with the Council's plans for the redevelopment of Warren Farm, which a decade later turned into the successful campaign to have the site designated as a Local Nature Reserve. He also led cross party campaigns to protect local health services.
Mark Andrews, stood in the neighbouring ward Walpole in 2022 where he got 1018 votes significantly increasing the Lib Dem support in the ward. Robert Hall did not stand in 2022 but all three will be happy if they get elected.
Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats said: “Ealing Labour has stopped listening to residents' concerns in Northfield ward based on their poor decision and actions with Lammas Park, changes to street parking and terrible levels of keeping our streets clean and safe. Residents often share with me their frustrations with the Labour Councillors, especially Cllr Driscoll, and how much they are looking for a change. Nigel Bakhai is someone who will work with residents to sort out the issues in Northfield and represent residents in the town hall. I've known Nigel for over 20 years and he was highly regarded as a local community champion. This is what the people of Northfield deserve.”
Liberal Democrat Northfield Candidate Nigel Bakhai said: “Northfield is a great place to live and Labour have failed in their duty to make the area a clean and safe place to live. As a Liberal Democrat candidate, I will work with residents and the Council to sort out the SuDS fiasco and give hope to residents who have been let down by Labour for many years.”
