Lib Dems helping support residents who are sick and tired of dirty streets

Filthy streets covered in leaves, detritus and litter are creating a shabby environment.
Local resident John Eklof is so frustrated with the appalling state of his local street that he started taking matters into his own hands! He recently filled three rubble sacks with muck and leaves sweeping a 20-yard section in front of his house. He took them to the Greenford Road dump as Ealing Labour closed the Stirling Road recycling site in Acton to save money.
He is disappointed that Ealing Council does not seem to carry out any inspections on how the streets seem to be faring, with the result that fly tips, leaves and rubbish accumulate generating an environment of detritus and detriment leading to shabby, unloved street landscapes and areas, which generates its own spiral of decay.
Ealing Labour has constrained street sweeping resources and have reduced the budget on these types of universal services by half in the last five years they have been in power.
If you can relate to John's experience and have any streets which are not being swept, or where leaves and fly tips are accumulating, please contact: gary.malcolm@ealing.gov.uk
Local resident John Eklof said: “As a resident here for over 30 years, I have seen the state of the streets get worse every year, and they are now at an all-time low. The Council has not swept or cleaned the streets all year, and the amount of muck and general detritus is unacceptable. Almost the whole area of Bedford Park is an eyesore. Ealing Council are simply failing in their duty to keep our environment clean, and free of general and tree detritus, and we haven't even had this year's leaf drop yet! They are duty bound to address this problem immediately.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm - Leader of the Opposition said: “Liberal Democrats have said for many years that our streets are full of litter, leaves and other mess. The Labour-run Ealing Council have made cuts which have made our streets dirtier. They say they are doing a good job, whilst large volumes of residents say the opposite. When I visited Fielding Road recently, the road and pavement were covered in leaves and dirt. The streets are so dirty that they look like they have not been touched for probably a year! It should not take a Councillor to report repeated issues to the Council officers and if so, they should fix the problem causing the dirty streets. Labour are failing so badly in this area and need to apologise to residents.”
