A big thank you to Ealing Broadway residents for electing the first ever Liberal Democrat Councillor for our ward! These last couple of months have been busy - here's some of what I've been up to:
Casework
I have been liaising with the police and Greener Ealing to tackle persistent graffiti in the Castlebar Road area. The police have identified the individual responsible thanks to the steady stream of reports made by diligent residents. In the northwest of the ward, I have been working with residents and my fellow ward councillors to petition for improvements to Cleveland Park by installing more - and taller - waste bins. I am also pleased I secured the removal of a stolen motorbike that had been dumped in the back garden of a council flat for years.
Council meetings
My first meeting as a Councillor was attending the swearing in of the new Mayor who spoke in support of two worthy causes: Hope for Southall Street Homeless and Steeping Stones Together UK. I made my “maiden speech” at Full Council on the evening of Wednesday, 30 June 2026 which was an interesting experience.
Earlier this month, I attended my first SACRE meeting, which advises the local authority on religious education and collective worship. We heard from two Farmington Scholars1 - Ealing teachers Charlotte and Juran - who spoke about the importance of a Religious Education (RE) syllabus that places children and their identities at the heart of their learning. Out in the community
It has been a privilege to be invited to various community events. In May, I spoke with police and representatives from community groups at an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) meeting on hate crime and community cohesion, and I attended the annual Questors Community Festival (no, I did not take part in the dance workshop - maybe next year!). More recently, I attended an “I Have a Voice” Q&A event, a programme for young people interested in local politics, and this weekend I was invited to St Peter's Patronal Festival - a beautiful, welcoming church in the heart of Ealing.
