Children showcase exceptional achievements at The Descendants event with guest Councillor Gary Malcolm handing out an award
Ealing Liberal Democrat Leader, Councillor Gary Malcolm, was invited by Margaret Noel (Chair of the Descendants group) to present an award at the 21st annual Dr John Roberts QC CBE Achievement Awards held at the Double Tree Hotel on Ealing Common, on Saturday, 11 July 2026.
Descendants, an award-winning charity supporting children and young people primarily of African and Caribbean heritage in the London Borough of Ealing. The charity was founded in 1993 by Margaret Noel, she and other Members continue to work tirelessly to support children, young people, and families. The charity is run predominantly by committed volunteers.
Schools are invited to nominate pupils of African and Caribbean descent to receive an achievement award from the Descendants' 21st annual Dr John Roberts QC CBE Achievement Awards 2026.
Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “Liberal Democrats believe The Descendants are a wonderful organisation, and it was a pleasure to be asked to hand an award to one of the many talented children at the event. So many of the children and teens have achieved a lot in one or more categories such as sport, academic ability, entrepreneurship, the arts and science. Sadly, the media do not always show the many positive community successes that residents from the African and Caribbean background. Events like this organised by Margaret Noel and the team show there is so much talent in our borough.”
