Ealing Labour give e-bike companies a free ride!

At Full Council Meeting on Wednesday, 13 October, e-bikes were discussed for the first time! This seems somewhat belated given the havoc that they have been creating across the streets of Ealing for nine years (since 2017), with little or no action by Ealing Labour, who have been in power since 2010.

The menace of e-bikes has gotten worse because of the lack of action by Ealing Labour, who have statutory powers (Highways Act 1980) to address them blocking the pathway. This is especially an issue for those with mobility issues, using wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Indeed, the Labour Mayor of London, who has been in post for a decade (since 2016), also has powers and has done nothing!

Although Ealing ran a pilot for six months (February to August 2026), they have undertaken NO enforcement activities to address the illegal dumping of e-bikes. In the meantime, e-bike companies have been content to continue building their balance sheets instead.

So not only have Ealing Labour been weak in upholding the rights and responsibilities of its residents, they have also not managed or deterred e-bike companies. Rather, they have been allowed to get away with increasing chaos on our streets.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Busuttil, Shadow Spokesperson for Transport, said: “The Labour portfolio holder responsible for e-bikes about 9 months ago (before the recent local elections) said that action was imminent at Cabinet. However, now as the six month pilot has closed, it has become clear that Ealing Labour has done little to address this issue and have not issued any penalty notices to the companies at all. Their behaviour seems to be much the same as the long-standing Labour Mayor of London. So for almost a decade, nothing has been done to address this issue and residents' e-bike woes are ignored! Ealing Lib Dems are listening and demanding action on behalf of residents.”
