Ealing Liberal Democrats focus on Temporary Accommodation, housing and local jobs.

Ealing Lib Dems have responded to the Ealing Citizens Open Letter with three pledges. Ealing Lib Dem pledges are:

  • To ensure that Temporary Accommodation (TA) includes cooking and laundry facilities. They believe that schools should be in reasonable travelling distance (especially for GCSE and post 16 stage) and that GPs and Schools must be made aware that the child and family is in TA.

    • It is shocking that it took a sustained Ealing Lib Dem campaign to close down the appalling and very dangerous accommodation at Meath and Marston Courts built of shipping containers and left in place by a complacent Ealing Labour for over 10 years!

  • To implement tough enforcement actions against bad landlords and more consistent and appropriate monitoring of compliance of housing, promoting openness and transparency through better use of data. Endorsing more innovative and new approaches such as community land trusts and purchasing additional homes to optimise the use of existing real estate.

    • In 2022, Ealing Labour's manifesto promised to build 4,000 affordable homes, but in the 2026 manifesto, the party built only 2,644 affordable homes - 1,356 fewer than pledged.
    • Affordable house building fell off a cliff in Ealing in 2024/25, with only 13 started - a drop of almost 100 percent.

  • To strengthen partnership working with employers to stimulate more local jobs - both well paid and entry level ones in the borough. This includes addressing both living wage and hours as a means to empower and support staff and company success.

    • It is shocking to see that jobs in the borough are down by nearly 2,000 in Ealing over the past year, according to the latest employment data for March.
    • In addition, this is substantially due to the National Insurance increases implemented by the Labour Government, increasing economic woes and rising inflation.

Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats said: "Liberal Democrats believe that it is the local people who need to be listened to in this election. Some of the issues that Labour have failed in includes issues such as temporary accommodation, housing and jobs, as they strugle on in the worst cost of living crisis since 1950s. Ealing Labour have shown time and again a disdain for residents closing children's and day centres, excluding them from environmental consultations such as Lammas Park, poor performance in housing delivery and failed economic judgement with a shrinking local economy and an ailing high street.

Our manfiesto sets out our ‘Six to Fix’ - bold plans we want to deliver in partnership with residents to help making Ealing the place we are proud to call home."
