The Ealing Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that the Labour East Acton ward councillor Kate Crawford has joined the party.

Cllr Kate Crawford, who has served the residents of Acton for 28 years since being first elected in 1998, resigned from the Labour Party and joined the Ealing Liberal Democrats after discussions between Cllr Kate Crawford and Ealing Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader, Gary Malcolm.

Ealing Liberal Democrat Council Leader of the Opposition, Gary Malcolm, said: “We are delighted to welcome Cllr Kate Crawford as a member of the Liberal Democrats. I have known Kate for more than two decades as a hard-working and conscientious councillor and a consistent carers' champion. She has always advocated for the people of Acton. I look forward to working with her as part of the Ealing Liberal Democrat Group.”

Cllr Kate Crawford, the new Liberal Democrat councillor for East Acton, said: “I am grateful to Cllr Gary Malcolm and the Ealing Liberal Democrats for giving me the opportunity to continue serving my community. It was very disappointing to be told by the Labour Party officials that, after 28 years of continuous service, that I would not be allowed to stand for re-election. I believe these decisions should be taken by a party's members and, ultimately, the electors of East Acton. I have always been a community councillor and, prior to being elected in 1998, I worked for a decade as an advocate for parents of children with special needs. I have also sought to ensure that the Council hears from residents who are most in need. My principles have not changed, and I am looking forward to standing on my proud record of delivering for the people of Acton in May.”
