Labour fails meeting its own targets for providing a clean Ealing exposed by Liberal Democrats

Ealing Lib Dems say that Ealing Labour is presiding over poor delivery and broken promises.
Ealing Labour have been in power at the Town Hall for the last 15 years.
So you would think that the Council might have lovely green spaces and clean streets to maintain the old fashioned reputation as Queen of the Suburbs but you could not be more wrong!
Ealing Labour have failed to meet their own targets for clearance of fly tips with a failing 55% RED indicator for Q3 2024/2025 set against a target of 95%.
Allowing fly tips to accumulate has generated an environment of detritus and detriment leading to shabby, unloved street landscapes and areas, which generates its own spiral of decay.
Ealing Labour have stealthily decided to reduce sweeping of streets. It used to be done four times a year but has now been reduced to twice a year, with an extra sweep for the leaves in Autumn. Much hinges on the timing of the autumn leaf sweep, if ill-timed, it could mean you are living with leaves rotting down and becoming a sodden mess until April the following year! You may recall that this happened last year.
Also for each of the last five years Ealing Labour has decided to reduce the budget spent on basic universal services for residents many of these are the sorts of services we often take for granted such as parks, playgrounds, street cleaning, rubbish collection and fly tip clearance. Yet Ealing has reduced the spend on these types of services by almost half by FY24/25 with only 25% of budget being spent on these types of services when five years earlier the amount spent was 43% of budget (FY20/21)1.
In terms of recycling and rubbish collection, Ealing’s recycling rate remains stagnant at about 50% for years with little impetus or interest in driving up more recycling. Ealing Labour seem content with the status quo, and yet more could be done to encourage drive up recycling. For example, Ealing Labour closed the Stirling Road recycling site in Acton leaving residents with a single site at Greenford Road for recycling which has limited access in terms of pre booking requirements and is only available for 5 days a week!
Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm - Leader of the Opposition
“Ealing Liberal Democrats expose that Ealing Labour are complacent and inefficient in the delivery of basic universal services for residents. They have let the borough deteriorate across a range of self-proclaimed targets where there is a trail of broken promises of delivery. Instead Labour have actively reduced the amount of money being allocated to front line services such as fly tip clearance and street cleaning. Liberal Democrats continue to expose where Ealing Labour have failed and suggest where they need to make improvements.”
