Southfield Councillors had a very offensive incident of graffiti on a wall on Beaconsfield Gardens reported to them on Sunday 26th October. Councillor Gary Malcolm acted quickly to report the incident to help preserve our local green spaces.
The Liberal Democrat Councillors in Southfield ward were instrumental in ensuring the cherished green space called Beaconsfield Gardens (opposite the Beaconsfield Estate) remains well cared for by ensuring that local officers removed offensive graffiti, reported by local residents and volunteers of Abundance London who work on the Gardens to plant flowers and maintain the landscape.
Councillor Gary Malcolm was made aware and instigated a clean-up by local officers, ensuring a short turnaround from initial reporting on Sunday afternoon and removal by early Monday morning.
Abundance London have helped to transform the neglected space which was seldom used; to one which is actively used and enjoyed by many residents daily, particularly in encouraging them to divert their walk away from the traffic on Acton Lane. The Gardens now have a strengthened biodiversity including plants and bird life.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of the Opposition and Southfield Councillor said: “Liberal Democrats believe that by listening to residents and acting quickly to remove offensive graffiti and fly tips in local green spaces we can keep our parks and open spaces available to reduce the stresses many of us feel in our busy lives. Liberal Democrats applaud the hard work and the many wonderful projects that local groups such as Abundance have produced and when they need assistance to remove graffiti then we will be here to help them.”
