Lib Dems petition to stop the Troubadour Theatre semi-permanent structure at Walpole Park has 1000 signatures

Ealing Liberal Democrats’ petition has over 1,000 signatories in the last week since their petition was set up.

Ealing's Labour-run Council are planning to allow Troubadour Theatre to build a semi-permanent structure to host theatre events in Walpole Park all year round for three years.

This will be discussed at Cabinet this Wednesday where Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition will demand that Labour drop their plans given the huge size of opposition to the plans.

Local residents are extremely concerned about the excessive noise, increasing traffic congestion on Mattock Lane, the potential impact on The Questors Theatre, building a semi-permanent structure on Metropolitan Open Land (MOL), and that large parts of Walpole Park will be blocked from public all year round under the current plans.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Ksenia Maximova, Walpole Councillor, said: "Liberal Democrats say that Labour’s plans to build on Walpole Park’s Metropolitan open land (MOL) is wrong. Our parks and open spaces should be preserved and not destroyed. We urge people to sign the petition to stop Labour from causing harm to our well-loved and used Walpole Park.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Adam Keenan, Ealing Broadway Councillor, said: “Liberal Democrats say it is alarming to hear Ealing Council is planning to build on Ealing’s premier park. There are plenty of brownfield sites across the borough that would make an ideal location for a professional theatre. The council needs to listen to residents, and take this back to the drawing board.”
