Local community bands together to transform unkempt open space.

Southfield Liberal Democrat Councillors Gary Busuttil and Gary Malcolm assisted local volunteers in some community work to make an overgrown piece of land in Church Path more open, tidy and attractive on Saturday, 25 July 2026. Councillors Gary Busuttil and Gary Malcolm spent time making a number of paths around the land and clearing up trimmed grass and weeds. The work was initiated by Abundance London, who lead and work on environmental and educational community projects in West London.

Abundance London is a voluntary organisation, founded in 2010, that harvests surplus fruit, plants orchards, hedgerows and trees, tries to reconnect people with nature and protect it in an urban setting. They create beautiful spaces, mainly through planting but also through art, sometimes with permission but sometimes by guerrilla gardening.

Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition and Southfield Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “The Southfield Councillors thank Abundance London for their work. They have really made the open space on Church Path much brighter. It is so important to cultivate and improve green spaces in our environment, especially by making them cultivated and well looked after rather than unkempt and uncared for! Liberal Democrat Councillors were happy to help the volunteers to brighten up Southfield.”
